Member profile – Paul Wise

After more than 20 years in financial markets and financial services, Paul Wise has learnt that the industry never stands still. As regulation has evolved, so too has his career, leading him to embrace new challenges and deepen his expertise in financial crime prevention.

Receiving an ACI Award in 2025 marked an important milestone in that journey.

Having served as a Responsible Manager for an Australian Financial Services Licence, Paul saw compliance become an increasingly significant part of his role. Rather than viewing the changing regulatory landscape as a challenge, he saw it as an opportunity to grow. His interest in financial crime prevention led him to undertake the Graduate Certificate in AML/CTF, strengthening his knowledge and opening the door to the next stage of his career.

Completing the qualification and being recognised with an ACI Award is one of Paul’s proudest professional achievements. Returning to formal study later in his career required commitment and perseverance, but it reaffirmed his belief that learning should never stop.

When he learnt he had been nominated for the award, Paul says he was “honoured and grateful, particularly because the recognition acknowledged not just the outcome, but the hard work and dedication behind it”.

The award has given him confidence that he is heading in the right direction professionally. It has also inspired him to continue expanding his knowledge, contribute to the profession and apply his expertise in practical ways to help combat financial crime.

Looking back, Paul believes recognition matters, not just for award recipients but for the profession as a whole.

“Many outstanding people quietly make a difference without seeking recognition,” he says. “A nomination tells someone that their contribution has been noticed and valued, and that can be just as meaningful as the award itself.”

The ACI Awards are now open for nominations. If you know someone whose dedication, expertise or commitment is making a difference in compliance, consider nominating them and helping celebrate the people shaping the future of the profession. Learn more about the ACI Awards.
